Probity’s Fastback Optical Data Diode allows organizations to implement a next-generation solution quickly, efficiently, and securely.
The Fastback Kit is a complete, lightweight solution that uses commodity hardware to move data at speeds up to 8Gbp/s in a uni-directional flow.
Fastback has been evaluated by the National Security Agency (NSA) and was recently added to the NCDSMO’s Official Data Diode List.
Fastback uses commodity hardware and drivers to allow fast, reliable setup using existing hardware, and can be interfaced with commercial RTB-compliant cross domain guards.
Fastback is an affordable, scalable solution that allows you to leverage commodity servers, guards, and hardware without the expense of replacing your existing components or worrying about proprietary compatibility.
Probity’s expert Cross Domain Solutions team is available to help with custom integration, inspection, and workflow orchestration support to create a complete, concise system for any mission requirement.
Fastback’s optical hardware kit provides physical Denial of Connectivity into protected networks. Supports UDP, RTP, SCP, NFS, and SFTP protocols. A video streaming option is also available.
The Probity Fastback Data Diode is a groundbreaking solution that uses commodity hardware and drivers to move data between servers in a high-speed, unidirectional flow via a one-way optical connection. It delivers unmatched flexibility and performance at a comparatively low cost to other solutions. Fastback provides a protocol break that provides a secure defense-in-depth architecture to ensure physical denial of connectivity into protected networks.
Fastback provides strong security at each layer of the diode, including a hardened operating system, a hardware-enforced unidirectional flow, and software to reinforce the diode. The software is specifically designed to interface with the diode kit to provide cross-domain services and enable extremely fast data transfer.
The Fastback Data Diode is typically installed on network servers in front of dedicated guards that perform inspection of incoming files on data moving to and from isolated networks. This allows users to quickly and easily add the RTB-required data diode into their cross-domain solution, without the complex integration, driver, and update challenges often found in integrated or proprietary diode/guard solutions.

The Fastback Data Diode kit can be typically installed in less than 30 minutes. Installation is performed in 3 easy steps:
Install the NIC cards in the sender and receiver computer hosts
Install the SFPs and connect the fiber-optic coupler
Install the Fastback software from the included DVD-ROM as a bootable device on each host computer
The installer will install a new OS and the Fastback software on the hard drive of the host computer, along with any security restrictions applicable to the host computer.
Once the OS and Fastback software is installed, the user can configure and verify that the diode is working as intended for the purpose of the installation.

Q:
A data diode is a device that allows data to move freely from one computer to another in only one direction. Data diodes provide a physical protocol break that prevent data from being transferred from the receiving computer to the sending computer.
Q:
No. Fastback is a data diode card kit, specifically designed to move data from one network to another in a uni-directional flow. However, Probity has many years of experience with solutions that include custom deep content inspection, integration with third-party filter products (e.g., PuriFile™, Glasswall™), and integration with various anti-virus scanners.
Q:
Fastback can be installed and configured in approximately 30 minutes. This includes the installation of the NIC cards in the host computers, connection of the fiber optic coupler between the two host computers and the execution of test data transfers.
Q:
Fastback is designed to work “out of the box” using commercially available commodity components. At the current time, Fastback has been tested using four (4) different types of NICs and SFPs). There are no custom hardware components in the kit. Other data diodes consist of custom or modified components such as the NIC cards or even the operating system. The Fastback software is the differentiator, providing maximum throughput of 8 Gbp/s on a 10 Gbp/s NIC.
